While GURPS and TFT are by the same designer, they're far from being the same game in different editions.

Major conceptual difference:
TFT is "Raise the attributes"
GURPS is "Raise the skills"

TFT is Change the number of dice
GURPS is Modify the Target Number.

TFT magic has only attribute prerequisites
GURPS magic has massive strings of prerequisites

TFT Characters built by taking racia attribute base, then distributing "extras" across the primary atts.
GURPS Characters are built by spending points which increase in cost by point.

TFT uses piles fo XP (100+ per point) to buy individual stat gains.
GURPS uses low XP directly increasing build points
