Here's a smattering of what painters thought about photography:
* Threat to artistry: Many painters believed that a mechanical process, which they saw as lacking human creativity, could not be considered "real art". They felt it threatened their livelihood and devalued their skill.
* Superficial imitation: Critics like Charles Baudelaire considered photography a "cheap, quick copy" with none of the depth, imagination, or emotional expression of painting. They argued it focused on an objective, unfiltered reality rather than the artist's selective and expressive "eye".
* Commercialization: Some saw photography as a tool for commercial purposes, arguing it would lead to the "banalization of artistic creation" by making art accessible to the masses at the expense of higher artistic aims.
Any of that sound familiar?
Not trying to shite on you IronTriem, but (as Tull would say) you seem to be "Living in the past." Not sure ol' Jethro thinks that's such a good idea.
