Message:Been some discussion hear tell that some parts of the EE Suit act as floppy mudflaps.
Boys, you need to sometimes refresh you studies with the Walker manual of basic FAQ. Those are fins, air spoilers. Try to brake in freefall without them. Think of the Environmental Enclosure as a fighter jet not a set of overalls. The TJ boys added them plates to right a trooper in orbital insertion as he was tumbling ass over tatas. The panels are rigid and actuated in response to the motion of the troopers limbs. If it flaps like a duck, stop doing that. Glide, boys, glides. Did everyone turn off the headset sea shanties that describe how glorious you all look, on fire and all.
What else?
The front plate work as a fully functioning forge and workbench for delicate operations. My suggestion was the edge has a magnetic lip to prevent screws from rolling off. Won a ingenuity award made of top-brass and all. The trooper can bear down on the plate to saw or grind or hammer. We all knew John Henry, from testing, was weak. We added some mechanical elements. Since the surfaces can become a controlled temp, I like my eggs easy over. The surface can be polarized to act as the opposite side of an arc welding torch, the other being the thumb.
Later Iterations
The plates would extend and anchor the trooper using a variety of man-portable artillery. The boots act as one set of cleats, the panels becomes another in the tripod. basic geometry, folks, three points and the plane. Above your paygrade, perhaps. That’s why they’re only on the front, duh. The panels are sharp on the edges and will dig into loam, allowing bulldozer operations. You get to be horse and plow, and no jokes about putting the one before the tuther. Though not part of MACE drill, there are videos of troopers dancing with the plates, spinning yoda-like and using them as sword or poleax. These will function even if the troopers legs are broken of blown-the fug off. A pair of troopers can run into each other and chop utility poles in half. Eslse extend and turn the plates into a slicing set of clippers. The actuators are strong enough to remove rubble to free someone tangled in a collapsed building or force open stuck bulkhead doors. G/Sol call them Warrant to Search implementors. Yes, dem fingers are pretty fine pinchy-pinchy on small locks. But the panels will slice open a bulkhead provided the trooper having someplace to stand and push with his feetie-os. Some guys break the actuators so they can fling them like frizbees. No level of dumbass defines the bottom.
Officer Mode
The panel acts as a desk with a touch pad for writing reports and issuing logistics requests. Sometimes its nice to use a stylus instead of your tongue on a HUD (when voice activation fails, as we know it does). The tablet is virtual and will also show holographic maps and command orders. The panels play an integral part of Activate Suit Codes, not for making commands but to restrain a soldier-operator from aiming or jetting. In effect, each trooper is walking around with his own magnetic handcuffs. Run and it may be jetting in a circle, anchored to the floor.
G/Sol
The survival mode package allows the turning of the panels into structures. More than just a tent, the material extrude in a sheet, even clear, then harden like an epoxy, able to unfurl into large sections for superstructure area cover or form into support beams. Sections were use to imbed precious metals for use as bribe on locals in case of infiltration or evasion prior to extraction. The panel could be snapped like a candy bar and the trinkets inside revealed. Most of the Battle Born treated there’s like Advent calendars and will exhaust this feature during basic training. Skia being the first to peck out their geld.
Fusilier, Discontinued
The panels had a number of other functions and some troopers have reported legacy versions mistakenly being installed. The panels were sections of high explosives for demolitions or mortar rounds. Plates A and B were binary explosives with a short fuse of deployment. By snapping small splinters off the right and left, not the inert middle, the two could be combined to produce critical reaction. Unfortunately, when the first EE Suit Battle Born were tested in the field, they tended to bunch together and troopers would accidentally collide—like they were forming a scrum—and detonate. Hence the first command taught to Cruz, spread out; it’s also by order of the Assembly embossed on the panels back-sides even to present date.
Free-Style
I enjoy the retracting tray table to hold my cup of jo during briefings.
So in conclusion, if you thought the panels were only to hide the hooha, you had take your mind out of the gutter before Squad 26, Femme Fatal, and Maria Iron Lungs Marcellus invests a small moment of your time to show how the plates can reposition to put your nutz in a vise. Floppy mudflaps, indeed.
Yours,
IronRed
