Message:There really has been a dearth of new board games I would call interesting.
I'm not sure if it's companies saving their goods for the right time? The collapse of GenCon much like the fall of Rome or if games are being careful with their dollars ... but ... yea .. nothing new out there.
Wingspan was big and it's a pretty thing. But, the reviews say it's all fluff and not worth the trouble to play ... it was described best as the game is really neat to say the names of the birds ... the blue crested Farfingbarfer, the Larch, the purple Plamperpus, ... except real names.
There's a Dune thing ... but ... really ... after you say "Fear is the Mind Killer" about 80 times, it's not that interesting anymore. I have this grand plan of 83 complex tactical steps interlocked with backup schemes, triple redundancy, and painstakingly and artfully executed over a four game day period and now ... yes now ... I will destroy the Landsraad, bring an end to the Mentats, and destroy the Atreides all in one stroke. What? You have the unbelievably common ... "but then a traitor foils it all and jabs you in the ear drum" card. Well, it happens.
Remember kids, there are no "good" guys in Dune. They are all tyrants.
If the dark age is upon us, let it be so ... from the darkness Delvers rises.
Yours,
IronConrad
