Message:British (or Aussie) box office gold:
Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch, Karen Gillan, Daniel Radcliffe, Liam Neeson, Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen, Ewan McGregor, Tom Hiddleston, Rupert Grint, Paul Bettany, Daisy Ridley, Idris Elba, Robert Pattinson, Russell Crowe, Anthony Hopkins, Robert Downey, Jr. (I know American but does good accent)
Easy to Google fun British actors that come to the project with a persona to exploit without introduction.
Both LotR reboot and GoT are touted as having the best actors of Britain. I have to claim BS. Much can be ruined by a director, which is why episodes should use an ensemble of directors across several storylines. But in both series I see the character acting as witless and anti-charismatic.
Takes a natural charmer to play a Boromir or Ned Stark. Takes the same to play all the roles written in these two fantasy epic series. I'm reminded of Wheel of Time where I rooted mostly for monsters in rubber masks. The Witcher had several actors who stepped on screen and could be loved, especially the lead (superman). The chick that started deformed and transformed was good too. Also the bard, hated him less than I should. Even the dwarves in that series were okay. Second season let down perhaps (on stories) but characters were still enjoyable on screen.
In contrast the edgy group of people in Rings of Power and House of Dragon are no better than extras. Critics tout the power of the acting, the caliber. I cannot recall a single movie I've seen with any of them. EXCEPT, when the wife pointed out that one of the five bar-crawl members in Pegg's End of the World flix. Pegg, He's a movie star. So is the guy he regularly performs with.
Samuel L. Jackson as King of dwarves (fun).
Tom Cruise as Isildur (fun, and man is underrated as actor).
Johnny Depp as young Gandalf (fun).
Dwayne Johnson or Vin Diesel as Sauron (fun).
Leonardo DiCaprio as Elrond (fun).
Denzel Washington as head of harfoot (glorious).
Too expensive...what else you spending a billion dollars on?
Yours,
