Written / pictures kind of define comic hero. Your choices had religious overtones which kind of lay outside of the Venn diagram of mere comics. If you include stories of powerful beings, the Egyptians have tombs full of them. But I'd not insult our ancestors by calling these paintings comic heroes.

Yes, the term is a pejorative. To say something is a mere comic hero is to suggest it is juvenile. Wrestling also appeared in first comics. Sure, life lessons and good vs evil soap opera but written for an audience mostly illiterate and untested. In the Age of Shoddy that means the majority of the males, perhaps all humans on the planet.
