It's better to have loved and lost than never ganked a hordie ....

WoW did a reboot as did many others. But, as the man said, you won't get your purples back.
The rogue servers are not quite the same. The act of earning it gave it value to the owner. I held the Quel and it was ... meh ... but the effort to get it made it valuable (even in imaginary ways).
Even in a small measure, there was something to learn about the cruelty one could inflict and endure in the game.
Chasing the weak through Stanglethorn and killing them (symbolically) let one measure what was in your own heart. The nector was sweet and intoxicating but bitter and unfulfilling.
But, if you had mercy and let them abide and did not slaughter at a whim, they would gang up and reward you with symbolic death --- PWNED they would teabag. As sure as the server lag.
I had the misfortune of only being level 54 on a server that started awarding honor points. The jackels would form lines to slaughter my toon and waste my time for a point of "honor". The human heart is dark, inky black, deep with hate. It was just a game but unmistakeable. A few slogans and token days of "Hate is bad" are nothing. Every day the furnace burns hot and robust fueled by generations of instinct.
The miracle is we have survived this long. The odds were we would have beat each other's heads senseless in a dirt field outside the Garden of Eden stained red from all the brain matter. "No my something something is greater than yours." Dead to the last head crusher who perished from an infected splinter in his back side.
Thank-you Holy men or charletans that distracted us long enough to flee circle of death ... do the magic that you do.
Yours,
IronConrad
