Long, winding, NPR style commentary, but a fun listen (when doing dishes or something).
It's a review about the game of the hour, that being Shadow Dark but the video wanders into dangerous areas, Mimetic desire, why won't they let Harrison Ford just die already, just pure rambling.
To be honest, too much thought for a non-serious issue. That of course is the point.
Shadow Dark is actually very pretty and shiny. It just does D&D a little bit better in some areas. The fonts are good. The book is well made. It doesn't do the pronoun thing (doesn't have to), and is well liked. Lots of great tables. Everything is contained in the one book so save your back.
But, as the reviewer points out .... people aren't really playing it even after gushing over it.
The biggest focus of the game is it's dark and someone needs to carry and provision torches. Sure, you're Uber Man but when you can't see, you are Toast man. It sounds like a great idea .... for one session.
Counting the lamdas and hard tack in your ruck sack sounds fun once as well. But, it gets boring quickly. Move along. (Of course you can by just .... ignoring that part of my version called Dim Dark.)
Besides, have any of you ever carried a torch for hours or held the flashlight for your Dad? It will test your mettle. Aww, burn. Awe, burn. Hey Jimmy quit hitting me with the torch.
I bought the Rune Hammer Crown and Skull over Shadow Dark but nothing says a humble dice chucker can't desire both.
Sadly, it makes me wonder how good Torg could have been if only .....
Yours,
