Message:Seven editions? First was fine. Little magic, little gear, it was situational, Tunnels and Trolls.
Your side (PCs) did damage (massive dice rolls). Other side (mobs) did damage (slightly less massive dice rolls). Higher inflicted that excess on loser. Repeat as needed. Special damage from bows and spells. What more did it need?
Adding things that are popular--character class and skill trees--does not always increase the entertainment.
Tunnels and Trolls suffered (like most) from a bad advancement system. In this case did first draft even have one?
Point of Order -- I played it (owned it) in 1975. May still have my Monsters, Monsters! a great game for new roleplayers with content that was NC17.
