Each generation remakes the myths to attract the readers (well until the money laundering showed up).

The guns went away when it was more fun to get the bad guys with gadgets. (There were plenty of gun toting heroes.)

The psychotic Batman is a product of the 1990's or so. Until then, it was just a kid that had a lot of money and no parents to tell him what to do.

He was fighting crime because that's what we all (thought we) wanted to do.

Today's kids of course want to become influencers and get butt inserts or something. Save the world through absurdity. Peace my brothers, enjoy the ride.
