Played again (2 player) in a funky coffee joint on Thursday (14 Aug). Funky coffee shop for a funky game.
Three games played.
First Game: My scoring machine kept me a bit ahead of my opponent by farming and writing. 6 "Achievements" by points. No great invention but always a few points ahead.
But, in the game, first to the Achievement gets it and the others are left behind (forgotten by history). The swing of the cards did not give my opponent scoring opportunities and could never catch up.
Second Game, the cards swung the other way. My opponent scored with the cards I had used. Though this could be attributed to "randomness", the thing to learn was to keep drawing until you can score even a little. I lost focus as I tried to distract my opponent to no good.
I took a skunking.
Third Game: I started strong and built to 5 (of 6) Achievements. My opponent realized the game was up and whipped the horses (metaphorically). While I was tweaking around trying to grab the last Achievement in Age 6 or 7, my opponent charged ahead to the later ages and built a terrible combination of cards.
We honked up the rules in that we failed to end the game when an a card from the 11th age is required. Score where you stand. (That's an important point because it gives a strategy to force the end of the game.)
We just interpreted, "pull the earlier Ages". The weight of superior technology held the day and my opponent pushed past the finish line. A long, hard fought game. All the brain registers had been engaged and the CPU was smoking.
I see in the FAQ that they clarified that better than the small rule book. A younger mind would have remembered.
Still more to attempt when convenient. I understand the game is on Board Game Arena. It may play garbage a few times but there is something in the chaos.
Yours,
IronConrad
