Message:Can't say any group of surviving soldiers were treated better than WWII. They also returned to jobs where it was enough to have served to qualify.
WWI treated poorly, no jobs and poor health care. Crusaders? Mostly kidnapped on way home and sold for ransom. Thirty Years War? Oh my no. List goes on with Nam vets and our current crop of vets who have trouble finding meaning. Perhaps the civil war vets had some common bond, but most had to go back to plowing fields. Touch hardscrabble life (Grant).
Terrible thing to give someone so young so much responsibility. Only later to treat them as just another person waiting in line. There will come a time again when service is venerated, just not that I can foresee.
Will robots treat their broken ancestors with anything but embarrassment?
