In order to make Chess more a pay for view sport, the best in the game have started using a freestyle back row. All the pieces swap around. That way all the openings are different, maybe even to the point where classic openings are meaningless.

That to me is a good change, since all it does it keep the same balance with more interesting chance to have blunders. Chess without blunders is not interesting. Best chess is when someone very good blunders and still wins by focusing on what he has and where.

I play online chess now at level three computer of max eight. I have fond memories of playing as a child. Even then we did experiment with our version of Freestyle or even a version where one player starts with all the pawns and rooks. The other all the queens, bishops and knights. That one is a spectacle opening up the pawn backed by pawn wall.
