Message:I've been still trying to distill the perfect, simplistic game system, with the best options, for causal and wargamer groups (like we run on Sundays). I strive and always fall a tad short.
That said, I started to tinker with a series of "Five Stat" games. Meaning all the rules are based on rolls against five character stats. It has evolved into a system where players expect to die and then carry-on with a better self (son, squire, favored henchman, member of guild, etc.) It also has four types of wounds, giving each player four mistakes? There's a copy somewhere of the first draft in the Vox.
We're trying this currently with an Indiana Jones / Call of Cthulhu concept, where players are seeking three Memory Stones to find out what happened to Atlantis (or something of that nature). A work in progress to get the Ref portion correct. The players seem to enjoy the action.
When I'm done, it will be available for free download (on the site). I can't truly sell it, cause it has too much borrowed art.
We also played Star Wars (Five Stat), White Box D&D (in Middle Earth) and a last gasp of Traveller before i tossed my books in the recycle bin. All those mostly to amuse and introduce VTT to our newest Sunday grognards--three buddies from High School retired and started gaming again.
Next up in three weeks will be Crimson Cutlass set in Europe, 1444.
Yours,
IronRed
