I don't think they spent too much time thinking about it in TOS.

The surprise moment is that he's the Ambassador. You know that because of the music.



I don't think what exists as modern "writers" can't write about loyalty, service, discipline because they don't understand it. Well, that and Fungo Bat battles. They learned other things. Those aren't as interesting to watch .... well not to me.

Don't blow up the Enterprise. It seems like an easy rule.

If you made a Star Trek series with the sensibilities of the original Trek and whatever it is the blue hairs want and put them side by side ... no one would watch the blue hair show.

The good news is hollyweird is a money laundering operation now so they don't need to make interesting content.

AI and the Internet will be replacing them soon. Then, they will evolve. There are interesting writers and artists. They just aren't in charge.
