The End of the Golden Age of Board Gaming .....

Long listen if you have time (20 minutes):

Let me summarize.
(1) Things cost a lot of money.
(2) The product has moved to a glitzier package made in China. Lots of skulps and such.
(3) Gamers want easy. Audience is fickle. Low Attention Span.
(4) Companies respond by reducing risk. Reprint successful titles. Use IP.
(5) Small companies being merged into big companies.
(6) Less new stuff so no big new things.
(7) New big things will come from small publishers and print on demand (who won't make a lot of money).
Much of that is obvious business cycles. Their analysis was nothing special.
One could repeat this analysis for RPGs as well.
One could repeat the analysis for phones, televisions, cars, dog food, butter milk biscuits.
Can't go wrong for two dollas.
Yours,
IronConrad
