More than any other art form...
Message:...humor is subjective.
I can always enjoy a relisten/reread/rewatch (1981 TV series) of Hitchhiker's. The song for the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation (radio series) as sung by the chorus of five million robots whose voice boxes are exactly a flattened fifth out of tune always makes me laugh aloud.
In a similar fashion, I'm always down to rewatch Red Dwarf.
Galaxy Quest doesn't do it for me. Alan Rickman and Tony Shaloub are gold. Siggy is silver. Rest of the film does nothing for me. I'll take Hitchhiker's over Galaxy Quest any day of the week.
40+ years later and I think I'm STILL finding jokes and Easter Eggs in the animations for Guide entries.
Other's mileage may vary. Again, humor is subjective.
In a drama there's a bit more room to be "objective" on quality based around plot logic, and internal self consistency (and, in a mystery, is the author playing fair with clues or do they dump something previously unknown into the reveal?).
Humor? Too individual. I won't say Red is "wrong" for not liking Hitchhiker's. I'll just say I like it.
We're agreed we'll just watch Red Dwarf. Season 4 anyone? Polymorph? White Hole? DNA?
Yours,
IronMike
