Message:Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy grossed approximately $2.9 billion to over $3 billion worldwide at the box office. With a production budget estimated around million to million for all three films, it is considered one of the highest-grossing and most profitable film series of all time.
The "MeToo" accusations ended many movie-makers w/ great instincts. Rapists seem to make pretty good movies. Harvey Weinstein at Miramax being one of them. Roman Polanski?
I can separate the art from the artists, but I am in the minority. Do I think celebs get a free pass? Not sure. But will say they did in the near past, during my lifetime.
I think the problem is I am no longer relevant as an audience member. Or my heroic taste is out of fashion. That's okay. But am I not truly the target audience? Seems to be many bad films (TV) that others also dislike (loath). Seems also to be many films I dismiss-find cringe with box office success.
Too many writer-directors w/ final edit. Producers often know what audiences want or will focus group test until they find the Popcorn Movie. I feel discounting that process ignores the business. Without the cash flow, all you're going to get is AI (slop or not). Maybe it's here already. The make your own art world and cry for acclaim.
How many sold copies of Cutlass would have been generated by a more
King of Comedy John DeLancy encounter in that genCon elevator? The world will never know. That's okay.
Fame today is falling off cliffs and eating detergent. Those kids today. Idiocracy?
