More or less agreed.
Message:Of course one of the things about Cutlass (and any other game with a level cap) is the idea of the character retiring. By level 8 a character should be looking at ending their adventuring life. Either they've gained enough power to no longer travel, or (in a game like Cutlass where a New World mission might take years) old age slows them down.
Campaigns we've had where several PCs retired as Swashbuckler in power positions were, of course, interesting as the later PCs had friends/relatives in high places (and Diaz turning traitor from the Vert Valliant perspective was effective, even if it wasn't until writing the recap it became clear most of the party DIDN'T KNOW Diaz, leaving Lord Baileigh to carry the emotional load - but it was a rug pull for the PLAYERS).
Otherwise, I guess for level 7+ play the GM could do a "historical level" Campaign, but that's Cutlass Scutage.
Retire your PC. Endless running just leaves a beloved character open to "they were better a decade ago," like certain pop culture character members of this forum recall as interpretations from 50 years ago while dismissing "recent" developments that are a 'mere" 20 years old.
Lvl 8 Cutlass characters need to look for retirement. Lvl 9? Congrats Tony, you were the first. Good on you. Hitting Lvl 10 means you die of old age, ok?
