I watched the videos and it looked fiddly .....

The combat system looked like it had a puzzle feel to it.
As I watched the video, I kept asking, why would you make it so convoluted? (Well you have to fill the time somehow.)
So, rather than moving through a story, you are trying to figure out how to unsheathe your sword efficiently.
I got the impression the later products were simplified -- "Gloomhaven - Jaws of the Lion" specifically.
I would play it if someone else would bother to learn the rules, organize the game, and spoon feed it.
In short, why would you play a board game which emulates an RPG when you can play an RPG? (Now, if it created a way to accurately balance an RPG, I could be interested.)
