GenCon was too large. Lost the charm. When the computer companies entered, it appeared very manipulative. Force Feed what I'm supposed to enjoy this year.
We had good times and sales at GenCon, but never where the show was revenue neutral.
The games were at best one in ten NOT a complete waste of time. The RPGA takeover of role-play was heavy handed and a blatant single-minded church of dogma. Welcoming my ass. You had six archetypes to game, and they all had to act like D&D the Movie tropes. Attendees grew older and fatter and the cauldron brewed hotter.
The same can be said of ComicCon, BuffyCon and the ThreeStoogesBuffShows. Strategicon too had a peak interest with slow decline to dull pain.
Take me out to the ball game.
