Message:...making the Kwisatz Haderach joke. Or we both somehow said it at the same time.
I mostly remember being annoyed at the concept of using the BRAIN'S electrical energy to run everything (a stupidity ret-conned in the next film), being annoyed that the then 120-year-old multi-camera technique was being dubbed "The Matrix Effect," and wondering why this lame action film was outperforming the thematically identical and vastly superior "The Thirteenth Floor..." or "Dark City" for that matter.
Alas, second movie - split into two and padded beyond belief by the studio - made the first one look like a masterpiece. To this day i have zero appreciation for "The Matrix."
It took J. Michael Straczynski's work with the Wichowski's on "Sense 8" for the sisters to finally grasp character, while the sisters helped JMS get over his issues with sex and action.
