Message:I think of my late Uncle Alan. He broke his back in a body surfing accident in the late 70's which left him a quadriplegic with minor functionality in his hands. While he spent the rest of his life in a wheelchair (nearly 40 years), he ran a business, learned to sail, met and married my aunt, and published a series of novels about were-dragons (The Dragon de la Sangre series https://www.amazon.com/Dragon-Delasangre-Sangre-Book-ebook/dp/B000P2A3X2 ). Interestingly, the protagonist is not wheelchair bound. My uncle's imagined supernatural alter-ego could turn into a dragon and have sex in any form he took (the books have a lot of hot dragon sex). For him, fantasy was an escape from those issues that result from paralysis. And even though he published a number of travelogues about places which best served those in wheelchairs, I believe he would find the idea of role playing someone in a wheelchair to be ridiculous, if not insulting. RPGs provide means to escape our reality for a time, not reinforce it. As an example, before I transitioned, I played female characters. It would never occur to me to play a trans character because no.
