Message:Been trying a number of first person games of late and many have made me nauseous. I usually return them for refund. Yet I do enjoy some of these games and wish I could play them. I have looked at all the suggestions online, but many are not working (in some titles).
This is new for me. I have played and tested many FPS and yet now (getting old) I feel more seasickness. The growing graphic quality may also be a problem. Games look too real. Yet my inner ear senses my body is at rest while the eyes think I am racing down a road.
Any suggestions, welcome or general discussion.
Third person games (of course) don't seem to have this unintended consequence. Also games with better central focus (larger aim reticle or part of the gun extended) seem also to cause less problems.
I remind designers of an important fact -- just because you can do something, like make the image on screen stagger when injured, doesn't always mean you should.
I may have to play some games tipsy, which I found helped when I once sailed.
Yours,
IronRed
