Move along, it's just desperation marketing...
Message:...See, DC comics is owned by Warner Bros, which is part of Warner Media, which is owned by At&T and Ma-Cingular has been making noise about ceasing publication of DC's COMICS, because, let's face it, they make more money from the movies and TV shows.
There are plenty of gay, bi, pan, whatever-sexual characters in the DC Multiverse dating back to the 1980's. It's just that most of them don't have as much name recognition as Superman. John Constantine was always bi, but who the hell knows who he is? Not a great example, since he had a movie and TV series, and three seasons on "Legends of Tomorrow," I guess
Danny the Street? There's an obscure one - a sentient transvestite street. How is a street "transvestite?" Well, in the 1980's it mean Danny has a gun shop, but it's pink and covered with flowers. There's an obscure one.
One of the Batgirls is bi, one Batwoman a lesbian. At least one Robin is bi. Hell, if we believe over a half century of jokes, Batman and the first Robin are the original gay superheroes.
Lots of lesbians on Themyscira. You don't have immortal, ageless Amazons living on an isolated island for decades without a little lesbianism. Hell, Wonder Woman was created as a bisexual Sub/dom by a psychologist in the 1940's. Oh, everyone "knows" Wonder Woman loves Steve Trevor? Yeah, Diana's also dated Batman and, yes, other women.
Move along, nothing to see here, nothing important, nothing worth commenting on. Jon Kent as Superman is only getting the press because it's the name, "Superman," and DC is trying to generate media buzz hoping their corporate overlords won't just shut down the company and fire everyone.
And it worked, didn't it? You're discussing it, griping about it, making snide jokes about it, and not even referencing the classic "Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex" article by Larry Niven where Niven not only pretty conclusively proves that (Pre-Crisis) Supes cannot reproduce with a human at all, but points out that Supes being Lois's lover is basically like one of us having sex with a chimp.
I mean, hell, at least it's Kal-El's son who is bisexual, not Kal-El suddenly confessing his undying love for Jimmy Olsen. This plotline literally changes nothing about the "classic" Supes, so, why the news articles?
