Message:So far as I've seen, the AI art isn't good enough to replace a human artist. It's pretty good for headshot style and 1 stance type shots. I've seen more indie/shoestring/no budget games start to utilize it effectively. Some just throw in a bunch, but a lot use it in say an NPC supplement to go with the descriptions which is nice.
AI art for landscape scenes is pretty iffy where it sometimes looks great, and other times looks like a nightmare or gonzo place. These could be useful if your game is either of those things I suppose.
The final part that AI can't really replace is giving you (the customer) what you specifically ask for. Sure you can run hundreds of jobs to mishmash photos to try to get what you want. Then you'd have to spend the time to go through said photos. In a normal business situation, it would seem more effective to do the back and forth with an artist to get exactly what you need. Oh and they also don't seem capable of more complex tasks such as action poses such as those from comics.
