Message:So much money and hype spent for nothing. Lack of scripts and pathetic directing, maybe all the British actors who have any talent are already been used-up in the original and Harry Potters.
GoT has already jumped the shark and the reboot in a dull age is pathetic. Why did they not go back just one generation to the kingslayer? Ned Stark defending his sister from several great suitors: Robert Barathian and a Targarian that eventually wins her to name two. The rivalry for Catelyn between Little Finger and Ned. Make him gay for Robert to add a modern twist. The Mad King hearing voices of three-eyed raven. The death of last dragon. Would have something, interesting and familiar.
Instead, Westeros way before the undead and the rebirth of dragons might as well have been on loan from Pern (without the flying sex).
These are not developed characters; they are glimpses of other roles. In the original the brothers were hard to discern. Here the growling and whinging is hard to discern. The political wrangling is lame. We must do something, hand slam on table. No one seems to have any grand ambition besides I am great, me-me. There’s no plan of action behind the dying king. The might makes right social order of the novels is lost. The women using intrigue and manipulating lovers is missing. Plus, the hallmark of the first Game of Thrones, the twists and main character deaths are absence. Wife dies by c-section; we didn't know her to sympathize. Her husband didn't think she was worth keeping.
Think about just the first episode (2011) and compare it to the three (is it four so far?). Barely a coda in four hours.
Why has no one yet pulled off a mask to reveal themselves as a faceless man? King would be perfect choice. He even has the foreign plague of stones kin.
Why has no one mentioned the fluent magic caused by the dragons? There doesn't seem to be any magic at all.
Why is the king not fire proof which might explain his cuts unable to be cauterized?
The writers don’t even act like they watched the original series. This is a no fantasy, no campaign of GoT. All the major houses and minor houses are baffoons. Could be true, then it’s a dull age.
The ships of the Craggy Crags would die by green jars of Wild Fire. Don’t recall any of the true names cause I’m not really a fan. All the first season was to me the interactions between the Hound and Arya. Season four was rather fun. But neither of those roles to root-for seem included among the growling archetypes.
Who are these people that fell out of a telenovela? I wish for a Red Wedding or Collapse the Septum to start over. The roles are rich, dull, idiots, maybe like the heart of Hollywood that spends money on this tripe.
The king that longs for love but kills his beloved wife. After tolerating eight years of miscarriage. If male heir was all powerful, he would have set here aside before then. Why not, he's a king? The dead queen seems to have no house of her own, advocating for the princess heir. Catherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn could raise armies. The evil prince who wants power without showing any machinations, as if he just needs to survive. If only he was loved? He was stripped of title as an adult and has no guile except to wench? The king would slay him or a sycophant that knows he’s dangerous. Read about the Borgias.
The petulant daughter who despite growing-up hearing the wisdom and intrigues of the court and sitting inside the small counsel seems to have assimilated none of that experience. She is as if they took a waif off the street and named the next queen. Her only ally a guard sworn to celibacy. Oh no? Lame. I guess they should hump. Where’s that lesbian woke when needed.
An enemy is teased (crab guy) but soon after eliminated without ever knowing why he appears in the plot. As if Sauron was slain as an also-ran. Just who do we cheer or hate here? Answer, no one it’s edgy. No it isn’t, it’s lame and plot-free.
You could run the first four episodes in any order and it would make as much sense.
The R-rating, adult themes seem wasted. These are not adults, they are a HS football squad drinking after practice, waiting for the next a prep league challenge. Not even eighties movie style either. Bros who like woman and woman who submit to Bros (off camera). Yeah! Lame.
Attraction is fueled by familiarity. The principal roles seem all contracted to not show flesh. Original would strip anyone out of clothes for awe. Instead, Got 2022 subjects the viewer to an Eyes Wide Shut panoply of background undulation and gratuitous nudity that is neither titillating nor groundbreaking. It’s just there and silly.
Burn Westeros, Burn. No wonder the Mad King tried to purge the city. Princess should suffocate her younger brother. She seems amoral enough. The princess should kill her rival, her father’s next wife. The princess should murder the diseased king. Is that even a crime when you’re in-line to rule? What stops that in feudal hierarchy are connections, none of which seem explained nor important in the scripts. She has a dragon to burn-all even if she is later the next regicide. Whole could pivot to new dynasty and maybe recover.
Is it all shot? Yep, money is spent.
I’ve said enough. Nap time while it’s on, until the wife joins my disdain.
Yours,
IronRed
