Message:I find it amazing that for all that AI computing can do, in many cases far exceeding human capabilities, it’s still really far from even approaching a rat’s level of sentience. The pictures are cool and evocative, but AI art like this always demonstrates that despite coming up with original artwork, the AI has no comprehension of what it’s doing. It’s a machine doing a very good job of making something with similar features to other things, but it doesn’t know what a single one of those things are.
A 3 year old will draw a shitty picture with a shitty sun and trees, but they know what they are trying to represent and it’s relation to the real world. A lot of the computer’s curved paths and walls become unintentionally Escher-esque because not only doesn’t it understand how it's library of images with "path" or "wall" or "building" tags relate to real world paths and walls and buildings, it doesn’t have a concept of the real world.
But does it matter if they get the job done? Could be a model for how out brains have constructed a world that works for us, but that science increasingly shows does not match the reality of what’s going on at quantum or relativistic scales.
Yours,
Iron Squires
