Message:I shared with this forum months ago our friend Todd Pickens was fighting to save the jobs of 50 members of the concept art teams at Disney Interactive. Large numbers of artists across the gaming, film and TV industries have already been laid off due to AI.
Keep telling my friends in the VFX industry - the only cog in the Hollywood machine without a union that now - right now, during the current WGA strike with DGA, IATSE, and SAG about to join them - is the time for them to unionize. This is their last, best, and only chance to do so, because AI is coming for them.
Now, today, there is a tool where I can upload a video and with one click the AI will motion track, motion capture, create a clean plate, map the mocap data to a 3D model, generate lighting and an HDRI from the footage, and composite the footage. I can download the footage, and/or the clean plate, object mattes, mocap data, rigged 3D model and a Blender project for if I want to go in and refine what the AI spat out after it did 98% of the work. This software is a free beta, but pricing on other models indicates final pricing will probably be about $1.00 per second of processed video. $60 for a minute of all that work is a hell of a lot cheaper than studio rates. And, I could do the motion tracking, clean plate creation, animation and compositing myself, but it would take days. So even for the one-man-band that money will be worth it to save the time on the labor.
Yours,
IronMike
